Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the practices of digital game-based language learning (DGBLL) in Armenian high schools, as well as the perceptions of high school students, teachers, and parents toward using DGBLL in Armenian classrooms. The study also aims at finding out how such variables as age and gender in playing digital games influence the participants’ perceptions. Mixed methods approach is used to conduct the research. The sample size of the study is 178 students from several high schools in Yerevan, 73 parents and five teachers, 256 in total. The data is collected using in-depth interviews with teachers and survey questionnaires with students and parents. The study findings indicate that there is no such practice as DGBLL in Armenian high schools at present, but Armenian teachers, mostly, are not against such an implementation. Mostly, Armenian parents have neutral attitudes to implementing DGBLL in Armenian high schools, with fathers being more in favor of DGBLL than mothers. Most of the students perceive digital games as a means of entertainment rather than a possible learning tool.
