Abstract:
This study is an exploratory mixed-methods research that aims at finding out the formats and effectiveness of in-service EFL public school teacher training programs in Armenia. It explores teachers’ attitude towards different programs as well as differences between mandatory and optional trainings, and elicits suggestions for further improvements. The findings of the study are based on data collected through observations of teacher trainings, surveys and interviews with teacher trainers and teachers.
The study was conducted in Yerevan and four other regions of Armenia: Shirak, Lori, Tavush, and Aragatsotn. The participants are 50 in-service EFL teachers and four various training institution coordinators (trainers). The results of the study state the basic models of in-service teacher training programs in Armenia and clearly state what motivates teachers to participate in the trainings and transfer their knowledge from trainings into real teaching environment.
