Abstract:
The design project entitled “Exploring women`s position in the world through English” is a seven week communicative course aimed at developing and enhancing speaking, listening, reading and vocabulary skills to foster effective communication. The course is designed on the model of Community Based Language Teaching, content based instruction and Adult Learning theory.
Needs analysis conducted at the Women’s Resource Center Armenia (WRCA) provided basis for developing 13 lesson plans with all necessary materials. The project provides deliverables with syllabus, assessment plan and rubrics as well as lesson plans with teaching activities.
The current course is designed for women at the intermediate level. The whole course was completely piloted at the Women’s Resource Center Armenia (WRCA) where the sample group was selected due to their level of language proficiency. At the end of the course the students were assessed by a poster presentation which indicated language and content development in the course related topics. The students effectively developed well supported arguments on the given topics and demonstrated good vocabulary knowledge. The course evaluation was carried out through questionnaire completed by the students. The evaluation results revealed that the course was successfully piloted and met the expected goal and objectives.
