Abstract:
The purpose of the current research was to determine the effect of authentic animated films on young students’ listening comprehension as well as to see what attitude the students had towards having their listening skill developed through those materials. The research was carried out in the Experimental English Classes (hereinafter EEC) at the American University of Armenia (hereinafter AUA). Two groups of EEC students were involved in the research. The experimental group received treatment. The instruments that were used for collecting data were: One Pre-Testb, One Post-Test, and One questionnaire. The quantitative data collected from Pre-Test and Post-Test were analyzed using Mann Whitney U and Wilcoxon Statistical Tests to compare the scores obtained from the tests of both groups. The qualitative data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed. The results of quantitative data showed that there was a significant difference in listening performance from Pre-Test to Post-Test in both groups. Particularly the students of both groups had improved their listening skill in the end of the course. However there was no significant difference between the groups that is the students of the experimental group had similar results with control group students after the treatment. The analyses of the qualitative data showed that the majority of students liked the language classes with authentic animated films and found the activities based on them useful and interesting.
