Abstract:
The current paper presents an original Content Based EFL Course on the current global citizenship issues. It is aimed at raising students’ awareness about issues related to education, environment, and social issues to develop their higher order thinking, problem solving skills, and improve students’ overall English language competence, while promoting cooperation and collaboration through ongoing teamwork in unified commitment teams. All the topics and course materials cover the wide range of global citizenship theme in both Armenian and worldwide contexts.
The implementation of the course showed that in an EFL classroom the integration of citizenship education fosters not only students’ language proficiency, but also changes their overall perception about being good citizens who are ready to innovate, take actions, and advocate for the common good.
