Abstract:
The current paper is a mixed-method research study which aims at investigating teacher-student interaction and its’ impact on students’ motivation in EFL classrooms in Armenia. The purpose of the study was to identify whether teacher-student interaction had an impact on students’ motivation. The study was carried out in two Armenian public high schools. The qualitative data was collected through class observations and interviews with 10 teachers. The quantitative data was collected with the help of questionnaire designed for the students. The results of the data analysis revealed that the stronger the teacher-student interaction and relationships, the more motivated the students are in the classroom. Also based on the results it can be concluded that the students are motivated when the teacher helps them to choose their professions and emphasizes the importance of the English language. They are motivated with a positive atmosphere and a good teacher. Teacher-student interaction is available not only in the classroom but also outside of the classroom supporting the students who need psychological help.
