Video-based songs are one of the most valuable tools that language teachers apply for teaching vocabulary. Vocabulary is considered to be one of the basic elements in learning a second language and has always caused difficulty for the target language learners. Thus, the aim of this study was to find out the effect of video-based songs on developing vocabulary. For this purpose, two groups from Experimental English Classes (EEC) from the Department of English Programs (DEP) at the AmericanUniversity of Armenia were selected. The target population was grouped according to the results of the placement test conducted prior by the DEP. The participants’ age varied from 5 to 6. Both experimental and control groups were given the same pre-test and post-test. The aim of the pre-test was to assess the learners’ vocabulary proficiency level prior to instruction. The aim of the post-test was to assess the learners’ vocabulary achievement at the end ofthe course and find out whether there was a significant difference in vocabulary knowledge between the control and the experimental groups. Video-based songs were used as instructional tools in the experimental group. From the results of this research it may be concluded that using video-based songs for teaching vocabulary may not be considered as an effective tool for the above-mentioned age learners. |
