dc.description.abstract |
Motivation playing an important role in L2 learning is not paid a lot of attention in rural areas in Armenia. The purpose of the study was to find out the motivation factors which affect students’ motivation to learn English as a foreign language in rural areas and to identify the needs they have to be encouraged. The research was conducted in two regions of Armenia. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect data. As data collection tools questionnaires for students and semi-structured interviews with teachers were used. Quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS program. The results showed a very positive picture existing in villages. Overall motivation among students is said to be high. Among factors that motivate them are teachers, friendly environment at classrooms, books, families, etc. According to teachers, students’ primary needs suppose having more time devoted to English, more attention from parents’ side, technological tools which will allow them to have listening and speaking activities; thus developing productive skills. |
