dc.description.abstract |
The aim of the Master’s Essay is to study nation-building and ethnic consolidation processes of independent Kazakhstan. The paradigm of Kazakhstan’s nation-building is a unique model in terms of multiculturalism and modernization tendencies.
The research provides historical background for understanding the origins of various ethnic, language and identity problems of post-Soviet Kazakhstan. It also provides critical and comprehensive theoretical background for the study the nation-building process from the perspectives of nationalism and post colonialism. The analysis of architectural design of Astana and state symbols is essential to understand theoretical approaches to nation-building. The thesis also refers to the current policies of Kazakhstan regarding ethnic groups’ management and linguistic policy driven by the Nazarbaev regime. |
